In 2015, Russia was renewing its efforts for Crimea’s annexation. For the completion of Extinction (2018), journalist visas were requested for Transnistria, accompanied by a fabricated script. The shooting runs as expected for 20 days in the pro-Russian frozen conflict and surrounding former Soviet territories. The only border incident to allude to was in Kuschurgan/Transnistria—Pervomaisk/Ukraine. The interrogation with KGB agents is reported in Self-Portrait. There is no consular protection in the territory.
